South Dakota Projects
TIE has provided professional development
to more than 300 educators in South Dakota and Wyoming to implement the use of handhelds
into the classroom. This was done through a series of three workshops.
The first was the Basics which gave ownership of the handheld to the user.
The second provided models and resources to begin implementing the handheld
into the classroom. The final in the series provided access to a wide
variety of assessment tools for the student, the teacher, and the administrator.
Many school districts have begun to implement handhelds into the classroom.
This site will offer other schools in the nation ideas, models, and lessons
that have been developed by South Dakota teachers. You will even find
videos of the students using the handhelds for you to see how they impact
learning.
TIE partnered with five school districts to promote the use of handheld
computers in the classroom in 2002-2003 as a pilot project. You will find
the stories from these schools included on this page.
Many other schools have also begun the implementation process and their
stories and videos are being shared here as well. This site will grow
with the addition of districts in South Dakota making changes in the teaching
and learning process with handhelds.
Please visit the sites at the
